| Day 01: Sai Gon - Vinh Long . (L, D) Morning depart for Vinh Long, 130 km southeast of Saigon to begin the exploration of Mekong. Take a boat through the narrow waterways to witness the daily river life of the southern people and visit the family factories producing pop rice, coconut candy and rice paper. We will stop at the home of a Bonsai gardener for a sumptuous Delta lunch, including the popular dish of ’Elephant ear fish’, before continuing our exploration of the tributaries and canals of the delta. Towards the end of the day we arrive at the home of a local family whose house is built on stilts over the water. These people will be our hosts for this evening and will tell us more about life in the Delta
Day 02: Vinh Long - Can Tho (B) After having breakfast, we bid farewell to our hosts to visit Ong Giao Garden and the handicraft village to see how bricks and pottery items are made. The visit also allows us to discover how fish sauce and soya bean sauce are made. We will arrive in Vinh Long for lunch. Later we drive to the city of Can Tho, considered to be at the heart of the Mekong Delta. We have some free time to explore Can tho town on our own. We will spend the night at our hotel.
Day 03: CanTho - Chau Doc (B) We board a motor boat to visit Cai Rang floating market where a colorful display of boats carrying juicy fruits and vegetables gather for daily exchanging. We keep cruising to Phong Dien which is another floating market that is 45 minutes from Cai Rang One. After venderding around this market we proceeding to Binh Thuy Temple where our car will pick us and drive to Cahu Doc. Chau Doc is a river city close to the Cambodia border. There are a number of floating houses (the floats are empty metal drums) which provide a convenient way for families to raise fish underneath. What makes Chau Doc interesting is it’s mix of communities, Khmer, Cham, and Chinese. The Cham often live in isolated communities across the river. Afternoon boat trip to visit the floating village and Cham communit y.
Day 04: Chau Doc - Sai Gon (B) Morning drive to Mt. Sam, a popular pilgrimage site of the Vietnamese Buddhists. A climb uphill to the peak of the mountain will offer stunning panorama of the nearby Vietnamese and Cambodian regions. Afterward drive back for six hours back to Saigon.
