In the 14th century, Laos went by a far more romantic moniker ~ Lan Xang Hom Kao or The Kingdom of a Million Elephants Under a White Parasol. The metaphor remains befitting of contemporary Laos, as it’s a nation continuing to strengthen its connection with nature while adopting the gentleness of a living Buddhist faith.
